‘We will celebrate Deepavali on May 16’ Chandra Babu

Unfazed by not-so-favourable exit poll results, Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday, said he expected political realignments after elections that would help the Third Front to come to power.

Reviewing party’s performance in Medak and Nalgonda districts with key party leaders, he said a political churning was on with NDA and UPA desperately trying to woo the parties that have pledged support to Third Front. Both these formations have now realised that they were unable to get close to the magic figure and hence eyeing Third Front.

But their efforts would come a cropper as Third Front would remain intact. It will meet in New Delhi immediately after the elections to strategise post-election scenario. “Even today, when just two days are left for the results, I can say for sure that Third Front will form the government.”

Rubbishing results of exit polls and other surveys, he called upon party men not to believe in them as these were intended to create confusion. “There will be many more such surveys, some of them manipulated in the next two days. Do not get carried away by them. We are winning as the vote was clearly against the Congress’ failure to check price rise and corruption. We will celebrate Deepavali on May 16 when results will be out.” Mr. Naidu said his confidence of Telugu Desam coming to power stemmed from the detailed review of 250 Assembly constituencies in the last four days. The exercise would end on Thursday with the review of the remaining 44 constituencies.

Such would be the sweep of the party’s success that several Ministers and the Assembly Speaker could lose, he predicted while referring to Assembly segments in Nizamabad district which he reviewed in the morning along with Khammam. In Guntur, it would win a majority of seats, he said while asking party workers to be on guard as Congress could mount attacks on them out of desperation.

The TDP president went on to claim that there was an undercurrent in favour of the party with most women, concerned by price rise and attracted by Cash Transfer and colour TV schemes, having voted for the party.

Mr. Naidu said he was touched by the sacrifices made by the party workers and repeated that they would be involved in implementation of all policies and schemes, if the party comes to power.
