BJP would initiate talks with other parties to muster support for NDA after election results are declared and would accept support from anyone backing L K Advani as Prime Minister, senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu said here today.
"As far as we are concerned, we will talk to other parties only on May 16. I am not suggesting or naming any party or leader," he told reporters on the sidelines of a review meeting with party's poll candidates.
Naidu's comments assume significance against the backdrop of reports that he has been given the task of enlisting the support of Telugu Desam for the formation of NDA government.
Reports in a section of the media here suggested that the BJP leader is in touch with the TDP Chief through back channels.
He said his party would accept support from any party that supports the leadership of L K Advani and formation of NDA government. "If you vote for us, it is full term. If you vote for others, it will be mid-term," he said.
The TRS decision to support Advani's candidature for prime ministership has naturally strengthened the NDA, he said.
Expressing confidence that BJP would emerge as the single largest party in the Lok Sabha, he said chances are bright for the NDA to form the government.
Addressing the party leaders, Naidu said NDA is growing in strength with parties like AGP, INLD and now TRS announcing support for the alliance.
Referring to state-based parties like TDP and Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam, he said they would take decisions on whom to support based on their political considerations.
He advised the party leaders in the state to avoid sharp criticism of other parties.
Taking exception to the criticism of various parties over Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi shaking hands at the NDA's Ludhiana rally, Naidu said nobody bothered about the growing bonhomie between the Left and Congress who crossed swords till recently.
Naidu, who is in-charge of the party affairs for the elections in the southern states, said his party would improve its strength in south India.
The party would win Lok Sabha seats in southern states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar islands and double its strength in Karnataka, he added.
