TD meet to pick Naidu

The Telugu Desam Legislature party will meet here on May 21 at the NTR Trust Bhavan to formally elect the party chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, as the TD leader.

Mr Naidu will be the Leader of the Opposition once again. The TD chief has decided to organise the party’s annual “Mahanadu” at the Imperial Gardens in Secunderabad on May 27 and 28.

The party politburo member, Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, said the Mahanadu would review the poll debacle, alliances with the Left and the TRS and discuss strengthening the party among other issues.

Dr Janardhan Reddy dismissed the TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s charge that the TRS lost because of the TD’s sabotage saying he would not have won the Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha seat without the TD’s support. “It is not right on the part of the TRS chief to make such comments. Mr Rao won the Mahbubnagar seat only due to the TD support,” he said.

Meanwhile, there is a growing demand within the party to review the alliance with the TRS and the stand on the Telangana issue. The party spokesperson, Ms N. Rajkumari, said the TD’s debacle was solely due to its tie-up with the TRS.
