Balakrishna’s thigh-slapping gesture has earned him the embarrassing title of Thodala Simha Reddy. Of course the SMS jokes doing the rounds on this newly developed habit of Balakrishna are not even publishable material. But the spoof is positively insulting. The spoof shows a caricature of Chandrababu nursing Balakrishna’s swollen thighs which are imprinted with “hand” marks (due to repeated slapping of the thighs) and chiding Balakrishna for campaigning for the “Hand” Congress ! The TDP predictably is both embarrassed and enraged. The background voice in the spoof tells the viewers that all the thigh-slappers in our puranas are rakshasas – Keechaka, Duryodhana and Raavana are the names of the asuras that are compared with Balakrishna. The clipping further goes on to isolate some highly “heroic” scenes in Balakrishnaa’s movies and comments on them in a deriding manner. Surely Balakrishna does not deserve this. Saakshi, many opine, is definitely crossing the line of decency by airing such spoofs.
