The Kovur constituency in Nellore district seems to be as good as money in the bank for Nallapu Reddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy of the TDP and Mahakutami. The constituency has always been a TDP stronghold since the party’s inception. Except for the 2004 Congress wave which threw in a surprise winner in Polavaram Srinivasulu Reddy, the Congress has always been at the receiving end in Kovur. Earlier it was the combination of Bezawada papi Reddy and N Sreenivasula Reddy who thwarted the Congress’s attempts. Polavaram Srinivasula Reddy has been nicknamed as the absentee MLA - one who seldom visited the constitution. Prasanna on the other hand has been campaigning intensively and the locals here consider the result a bygone conclusion. The PRP effect is not seen much in this town as many here believe that Chiranjeevi has not done much to earn their trust, yet. Jr. NTR’s speeches are screened in the main bazaar in the town and the audiences, according to those who have been present at the screenings are absolutely going berserk and asking for repeated screenings.
