In Adilabad, except for Asifabad (Congress) and Mudhole (PRP), the Mahakutami, according to our survey findings, is set to bag the remaining 8 seats, viz ; Sirpur,Chennur, Bellampalli, Mancherial, Khanpur, Adilabad, Bodhan and Nirmal. Adilabad has since 1983 been a TDP stronghold. The only deviation was in 2004 after the TRS joined hands with the Congress and gave hopes to the formation of a separate statehood. True to form, Adilabad has reverted to the statehood cause. If the survey findings in Adilabad are any indication, KCR’s message of betrayal by the Congress has worked well with the voters here. In a pattern that is likely to be repeated in many districts in Telengana, the average voter here feels that the Congress has deliberately delayed and denied them a chance at statehood. The PRP’s hold has been confined to Mudhole , which has a large percentage of Kaapus in its ranks.Rule Andhra findings also found that the economic meltdown has had a significant impact on the ruling party. Adilabad is a granite quarrying district. Thanks to the slowdown over 90% of the quarries in the state were shut down and huge numbers of youth were left with no jobs. The ruling party’s inability to come up with an effective rehabilitation policy has left the youth here disillusioned. The town of Nirmal is a case in point. Nirmal has a large number of artisans in the electorate. In this constituency, the Congress is fighting hard for a third place with the PRP and Mahakutami running a tight race for the finishing spot.
