UPA emerges single largest group in television exit polls
The ruling UPA appears to have emerged as the single largest grouping in exit polls for the Lok Sabha elections with the NDA not far behind opening up the possibility of a key role for small parties in government formation.Projecting a highly-fractured verdict, the surveys by TV channels at the end of the fifth and final phase of polling in the month-long exercise today have placed the Third Front at a little over 100 seats.CNN-IBN gave UPA 185-205 seats while the BJP-led NDA has been projected to secure 165 to 185 seats. The Third Front has been given 110 to 130 seats and the Fourth Front between 25 and 35 seats. 'Others' are likely to get 20 to 30 seats.Projections for 196 seats in six states on NDTV placed the UPA ahead at 77 seats against 72 for NDA, 39 for Third Front, six for the fourth front and others two.
