Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu raised quite a few eyebrows on Tuesday by openly saying that he would involve his party workers in implementing his key election promises of cash transfer scheme and distribution of colour TVs, if his party comes to power.
Addressing party men while reviewing party performance in Adilabad and Kurnool, he however asserted that it would not be like what Congress did with Indiramma housing and other schemes. He would also see that false cases under prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act and other Acts booked against the party workers by the Congress government to harass them would be withdrawn after referring them to a committee. He was repeatedly referring to the way the party cadre had sacrificed everything for the sake of the party. They put everything at stake, their lives and properties and it was the duty of the party to see that their services were recognised, he said. He spoke of creating self-employment ventures with help of NTR Memorial Trust for party workers in dire need of financial help. Already, a top class school was being run and the Trust would take care of future educational careers of children of party workers who were targeted by the rival political party.
Mr. Naidu asked the party cadre to remain alert during the counting process and check Congress from playing mischief. “Respond to them in equal measure,” he said. He wanted them to be doubly cautious in places where there was a keen triangular contest and where they expected narrow winning margins.
Team spirit
Calling upon the cadre to fight for the cause of the people and show team spirit, he took a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying he would never be able to win any direct elections as he was never a “people’s man”. He was always perceived as an economist.
