Cong rejects SP demand for Maya's dismissal

Congress on Wednesday rejected Samajwadi Party demand for dismissal of Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh in return for support to government-formation after Lok Sabha poll and wooed SP's prominent Muslim face Azam Khan who is involved in a war of words with party colleague Amar Singh.

"There is no question of dismissing a duly elected state government ," Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said when asked whether Congress favoured dismissal of Mayawati government.

"How is it possible? It is not constitutionally possible," he told reporters here in reply to further questions on the issue.

Referring to Kha, he said "in SP, Azam Khan is a grassroots leader. They (SP) chose Jaya Prada from Rampur (as candidate for Lok Sabha poll). There is some resentment there," Singh said.

Reaching out to non-UPA and non-NDA parties, the Congress leader said only BJP and Shiv Sena were "communal" with whom Congress will have no truck.

"Only BJP and Shiv Sena are communal as they indulge in politics-based on religion," Singh said.
