It was disheartening to watch Chandrababu blithely telling his party’s cadre that the TDP will come back to power in the next election. Instead of instilling a sense of purpose and direction into a demoralized cadre, Chandrababu is once again resorting to lulling them into a strange sense of “hang-in-there-for-5-years” complacency. While the TDP hangs in there, the Congress will go to town about the irrigation projects it will complete and in the ensuing goodwill drown the TDP’s electoral chances. Unlike Chandrababu for whom an election seems to be a destination in itself, Rajasekhara Reddy views an election as another milestone that he has to cross. That perhaps was the singular difference between the two leaders in the April elections. Not too long ago Chandrababu Naidu was the master of positive thinking and all the buzz talk that went along with it. It is time that he starts walking the talk! The TDP, starved off inspirational leadership, needs somebody to pull it by its socks and get it ready for an uphill battle with an increasingly confident Congress headed by Rajasekhara Reddy.
