Naidu blames Chiranjeevi for TDP's poll debacle

Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu has started finding excuses for the party’s defeat in the recent elections.

While introspecting over the defeat, Naidu blamed it on the entry of two new parties – Praja Rajyam and the Lok Satta Party into the electoral field, resulting in the split of anti-establishment vote. He said the Congress might have come to power in the state again, but its percentage of votes was just 36.8, which was unprecedented. “Which means, the opposition parties together polled 63.2 per cent of votes. The difference in percentage of votes between the Congress and the grand alliance was only 1.8 per cent,” he said.

He pointed out that in many constituencies, the TDP candidates had lost the polls with a narrow margin, mainly because of the presence of the PRP and the Lok Satta. Had there not been a split in the anti-establishment vote, the TDP would have come to power comfortably, he said.
