The Telugu Desam Party today charged the UPA government with having delayed the CBI probe into Satyam scam by a month, while casting doubts over impartiality of the investigating agency itself.
"Why they (the UPA government) delayed it for one month. Why the Prime Minister was silent for one month...All the records they destroyed," former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu told reporters here.
He said it is not only he who is levelling charges of destruction of records.
"I am not saying this. SEBI went to the local court. No permission was granted to inquire. It then went to high court, but permission was refused on technical ground. Ultimately, they went to the Supreme Court, saying the records were being destoryed," he said.
Expressing doubts over the impartiality of CBI, he said, "The Supereme Court has commented so many times on CBI. We are having our own reservations on CBI. The present Congress government has spoiled the reputation of CBI also. So, I demanded on the floor of the House (state assembly) inquiry by a sitting judge."The Andhra Pradesh government has handed over the Rs 7,800-crore Satyam scam to the CBI, more than a month after the IT major's founder B Ramalinga Raju confessed to cooking his company's account books and inflating profits over the last many years.
Appreciating the Corporate Affairs Minister P C Gupta's move to approach the Company Law Board to supersede boards of two Maytas firms, Naidu said he would also demand the minister to seek similar action on 16 firms promoted by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YSR Reddy's family because they are involved in corruption.
He also demanded that projects awarded to Maytas firms be retendered whereever possible and land sale to these firms be reviewed.
Naidu later met Gupta at his residence here and gave him documents in support of his charges against the firms promoted the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's family.
He told reporters that Gupta had assured him of going through the material and taking appropriate action.
