The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) lost by a narrow margin after securing over 50,000 votes in eleven Assembly constituencies. By coincidence, the party also secured the second narrowest victory and second biggest victory in the elections with its candidates K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao winning from Sircilla and Siddipet.
While Mr. Rama Rao won with a slender margin of 171 votes, Mr. Harish Rao romped home with 64,000 votes. Mr. Harish Rao improved upon the lead that he secured in the by-elections last year but another TRS candidate Koppula Easwar’s victory margin fell drastically. He won by just 1,700 votes as against a lead of 28,000 previously. The drop was explained to shift in his constituency from Medaram to Dharmapuri.
The eleven constituencies where the TRS lost narrowly are : Bhoopalpally, Jangaon, Parkal, Mahbubabad and Wardhannapet in Warangal district, Shadnagar in Mahabubnagar, Vikarabad in Ranga Reddy, Dubbaka in Medak and Alair, Huzurnagar and Suryapet in Nalgonda. Incidentally, the TRS lost to Congress in all these places.
