Modi says he will remain in Gujarat
Touted as the next Prime Ministerial candidate of the BJP in the middle of its disastrous Lok Sabha election campaign, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said that he would remain in the state. Some BJP allies and voices within the BJP have cited the mention of Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate in 2014 as one of the causes for the BJP-led NDA being humbled in the polls, with JD(U) leader and NDA convenor Sharad Yadav saying Modi's projection was a mistake. Modi himself told reporters today that "My stand is clear from the beginning that I am in Gujarat, will remain in Gujarat and will do service to the people of the state." In his first reaction to the Lok Sabha election results, he said: "In democracy, people's verdict is always final and we all have to accept it with humility." "There is no full stop in politics," he told reporters while replying to questions on the BJP's performance. "Gujarat will continue its journey on the path of development. I also appeal to the UPA government to pursue the path of development," Modi said. He said BJP and NDA were in the Opposition and had gone to the people seeking their vote. "But the people of the country have again asked us to sit in the Opposition. UPA and Congress were in power and people have again given them the responsibility to be in power and run the government."
