TDP goes in for a complete overhaul

A revamp of the entire Telugu Desam Party is on after the reverses it has suffered in the recent Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

On the second and final day of party’s annual conference, Mahanadu, here on Thursday, party supremo N Chandrababu Naidu abolished the party state and district committees. He said: ‘‘From now on, they will function as election committees till the election to the State and district committees are completed.’’ Abolition of the party state and district committees came after a discussion on the party organisation.

A resolution, abolishing the committees, was accepted. The election for new committees would be completed by next Mahanadu.

Since the election of mandal and village committees is a laborious process, they would be continued.

The party would honour workers and leaders who did well in the elections with awards.

Those who did extremely well 10 Assembly constituencies at the state level and three constituencies in each district would be felcitated.

As part of the revamp of the organisation, a new tier to the party structure, - area committees - would be created, the TDP president said. Regular training would be given to the members fo the committees to make them aware of ground level realities and what they are expected to do.

The performance of the committees would be reviewed every six months. A very serious view would be taken of the leaders who do nothing for the growth of the party.

He said a new blood bank would also be established at Guntur and the construction work would begin next year. The party would help the cadre get self-employment and would take care of the education of their children, the Opposition leader promised.

Youth would be inducted into the party in big numbers and they would be entrusted with suitable responsibilities, Naidu stated and directed the leaders to keep interacting with the people on a day-to-day basis.

Powers would be transferred to district and mandal committees, the TD president stated and made it clear that the organisation must take responsibility for the defeat of the party and urged the party cadre to prepare for the local body elections.

Earlier, participating in a debate on organisational structure, the party leaders informed that though village and booth level committees were in place, they hadn’t met even once.
