HUNG in Greater Hyderabad Elections

The final result of GHMC elections has been announced and it’s presents a mixed verdict for all major political parties. Congress won in 52 divisions, TDP in 45 and MIM in 43 divisions. BJP could win in only 5 divisions while PRP had to be content with only 1 division. Lok Satta couldn’t win even in a single division. While independent contestants won in 4 divisions across Greater Hyderabad.

Congress did win more number of seats than TDP, but it does not have an absolute majority. They will have to join hand with MIM to contest for the Mayor post. TDP on the other hand will be content with its credible performance. The contest was evenly balanced at one stage; however,Congress had the last laugh. BJP, despite its campaign in the name of ‘patriotism’, completely forgot to address the local problems. The big news today was the terrible show put up by both PRP and Lok Satta. PRP could manage only 1 win in Old Bowenpally division and save its face. Lok Satta which had an aggressive campaign strategy to address the local problems failed to make an impact. They even lost in the Kukatpally, KPHB division! MIM’s tally of 43 is impressive and almost all their wins are in Old city of Hyderabad. TDP has come back strongly in the border divisions of Greater Hyderabad. Now, the ball is in MIM’s court to decide who will become the Mayor since no party has absolute majority.
