The TDP alleges that Prasanna Kumar Reddy is in “financial troubles” and is being used by the Congress to mount an attack on Chandrababu Naidu in exchange of monetary rewards. While monetary motives are indeed difficult to prove, one cannot rule out political motives in mounting an attack on Chandrababu Naidu. The one party that has the maximum to gain out of a weakened TDP is the Congress. And Chandrababu Naidu for all his flaws is still the only leader that the TDP has, if it needs to mount a sustained and coordinated attack on the Congress. While Balakrishna and Harikrishna can claim to have “star power” it is by now proven that it need not necessarily translate into votes in the box. And above all Chandrababu is the only leader with strong connections to the power centers in Delhi. So if Chandrababu is removed from AP’s power equation, Dr YSR will definitely have it easy for many more elections to come. There is also a strong possibility that Prasanna is angling for a seat in the Congress as the Congress does not have a strong alternative in the Kovur Taluk.
