With Dr. Mitra’s resignation the PRP is staring into an ideological abyss. The principled Doctor was long considered the sounding board for all the ideological aspects of the PRP. The platform ofsocial Justice was his creation as was the “essentials for Rs. 100” scheme. But ever since the left parties failed to align with the PRP, vested interests in the party began to project that as Dr Mitra’s failure. Never one to overstay his welcome, Dr Mitra wanted to opt out in April itself. But he was convinced to continue at least till the elections were over. Now he finally has submitted his resignation. Speaking to journalists after the resignation Dr. Mitra said that the opposition had succeeded in sullying the image of Chiranjeevi by spreading the “seats for cash” propaganda. He denied any wrongdoing on Chiranjeevi’s part and said that the actor was a principled man who had a genuine interest in public service.
