The Election Commission has directed the Andhra Pradesh government to shift its present Director General of Police (DGP) S. S. P. Yadav to a non-election related post and send a panel of names by Friday for selecting a new DGP.
However, there is no order regarding Chief Secretary P. Ramakanth Reddy, who was also sought to be transferred by the opposition parties, for his alleged involvement in a corruption scandal.
Many opposition parties had petitioned to the EC seeking the transfer of Mr. Yadav for openly praising Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and the government during an official tour in Kurnool and Mahabubnagar districts after the model code of conduct came into effect.
