Race for Congress ticket hots up in Anantapur

The exercise of accepting applications from aspirants for party tickets to Assembly and Parliament constituencies, as per the directions of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), progressed on a brisk note on Sunday. A large number of candidates including the sitting members queued-up for staking their claims.

In all, 274 aspirants including all the sitting legislators and Members of Parliament staked their claims for 14 Assembly and 2 Parliament seats in five days so far. While most of the aspirants submitted their applications to the District Congress Committee (DCC) personally, some senior leaders, including the sitting members, submitted their applications through their assistants and followers.

Heavy turnout of aspirants on day five of the exercise surprised many a senior leader as they were stunned to find even followers as challengers for party ticket. Interestingly, the exercise has also thrown many ‘challengers’ even to the sitting legislators and MPs. Many applied for party ticket to the seats that have been considered almost finalised by the party leadership, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Several sitting members submitted their applications to the DCC on Sunday.
