BJP focusing on south India for LS polls

The BJP is focusing on south India, which constitutes 132 Lok Sabha seats, to ensure more victories in the ensuing elections, senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu said here today.

"BJP is giving more attention for election management in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Union Territories. The state units have been directed to form various committees including election management, resource mobilisation for the purpose," Naidu told reporters here.

He said senior leaders from the party will visit southern states as part of campaigning for the upcoming general polls and Lok Sabha conventions will be held in every Parliamentary constituency.

Inviting new people from different fields to join the saffron party, Naidu said the party would also accommodate such people to contest.

BJP's Southern state units have been asked to finalise on selection of candidates by March 8 and report their recommendations to the central committee, he said and added the party will come up with separate supplementary state- level manifestos to focus on the issues pertaining to these states.

Taking a dig at the ruling Congress party in Andhra Pradesh, the BJP leader alleged that Congress lacked conviction towards formation of Telangana state. He slammed the 'grand alliance' of Opposition parties in the state terming them as "opportunist political parties". They (grand alliance) should be clear on their policies and particularly on the issue of separate statehood for Telangana, Naidu said. Reacting to a query, the BJP leader reiterated that his party will not go for alliance with any party for the forthcoming general and assembly elections in the state until any party comes forward.
