Depictions in 'Slumdog' pains me: Hema

Slumdog Millionaire' might have won several prestigious global awards but former Bollywood dream girl Hema Malini is "pained" that the movie has depicted the parts of the country which are "not so good" and for it the film is being appreciated.

Even as she appreciated the movie as "a very beautiful film" and wished it luck for Oscars, the superstar of yesteryears said, "It pains me that they have shown those parts (in Slumdog) of our country which are not so good and this is fetching it the awards."

She was talking to reporters outside Parliament when asked to comment on the movie, which is based on Mumbai slums, being nominated for Oscars.

"Even our countrymen are perhaps not aware of the reality of slum children, which they (filmmakers) have shown (in Slumdog). Many of them do not even know any such thing can happen among them, which they brought out," she said.

The actress, many of whose movies have been a big hit, said, "People in our country have made much better films" but did not get the deserved award and in this regard named Aamir Khan's 'Lagaan' as an example

At the same time, she said the film was good and she was quite happy it is getting awards. "We wish they come back with awards. They should get the Oscar and add to the country's pride," Hema said.

She also praised music composer A R Rahman as a "genius" and said, "he should definitely get the award."
