Pathetic PRP - Promises win in 160 seats, Loses deposits in 165 seats!
Chiranjeevi’s fall from illusionary grace couldn’t have been more brutal. After boasting that his party would win 160 seats, it really must have been brutally cruel for him to watch his party candidates lose their deposits in 165 of the 289 contested seats! If there is any consolation, the PRP’s pathetic performance was outdone by the BJP which lost its deposits in 260 of the 269 seats that it contested. That by the way is a mind numbing 97% of its contested seats. However the BJP did not speak big at the state-level. The PRP tale though is different. Its leader time and again spoke about being “invited” into politics. His arrogance has been put in perspective and he has been a taught a lesson in real politics that he is unlikely to forget in a hurry. The voters have told him to bring something more tangible and valuable to the agenda the next time around. Wishy-washy slogans and passionate theatrics, they have reminded him, are no substitute for a relevant agenda. Chiranjeevi’s loss in Palacole and Allu Arvind’s loss at Anakapalle must have hurt the PRP, but it reflected the infinite wisdom of the AP voters and the inherent strength of India’s democracy.
