KCR confused on seat to fight

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti president, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, is reportedly in a dilemma on whether to contest again from the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency or shift to an Assembly seat.

Sources said astrologer Ramana Rao, who conducted the Vishwa Shanti Yagam for world peace and victory of the TRS in the elections had reportedly advised Mr Rao to shift to an Assembly constituency.

The TRS president represented Siddipet Assembly constituency for the first time in 1985 and subsequently got elected from there for six consecutive terms. In the 2004 elections, he shifted to Karimnagar LS constituency and won. He was re-elected in the subsequent bypolls too.

The astrologer also advised Mr Rao to insist on a deputy chief minister from the Backward Classes if the Mahakutami wins the 2009 Assembly elections.

The astrologer played a crucial role in the TRS joining the Grand Alliance. Though the TRS tried to join hands with the Praja Rajyam, the astrologer had the last word.

It is unclear if Mr Rao will contest from an Assembly seat based on the astrologer’s advice. He is already facing problems in the family over allotment of seats. TRS sources said the party president wants his son, Mr K.T. Rama Rao, to contest from the Siddipet Assembly constituency and Mr Harish Rao to move to the Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency or any other Assembly constituency. Mr Harish Rao has reportedly rejected the offer.

The astrologer’s advice has complicated matters. “If Mr Rao decides to contest from Siddipet Assembly constituency, Mr Harish Rao will have to move out. We have not been consulted so far. But we feel he should go to Delhi,” a senior TRS leader said.
