Shravanamasa, the most auspicious month to start new ventures, will witness politicos crossing sides to the Congress, particularly two independent MLAs and 12 belonging to the Praja Rajyam.
According to Congress sources, the independents, Mr Rajeswara Reddy (Mahbubnagar) and Mr Somavarapu Satyanarayana (Ramagundam), have decided to work with the party. From the PR, Mr Bhooma Nagireddy, the Kurnool district strongman and former TD MP, has mobilised support of about a dozen MLAs for the Congress. Mr Katasani Ramireddy (Banaganapalle) even disclosed his plans on Friday.
Since defections are not permitted, these MLAs will pledge their support to the Congress and the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, but remain with the Prajya Rajyam till their effort for a merger of the legislature party with the Congress fructifies. Sources close to Mr Bhooma Nagireddy have confirmed this. A senior Congress leader said, “We are not in a hurry to informally admit them into our party. The PR MLAs who are sending us feelers are in a hurry. We have to take into account the feelings of our local leaders. A new entrant cannot be accommodated unless the local leadership agrees.”
