33:1 – AP’s poor representation in parliament continues
Even after sending 33 MPs to the LS, Delhi seems to have shown scant respect to the feelings of the 6 crore+ Telugus. The only ministerial berth from AP was for Prof Jaipal Reddy – the MP elect from Chevella. Even on Tuesday’s second round the other MP from A P being touted for a berth is Mr Kishore Chandra Dev (from Araku LS), who in all probability will be made the speaker of the LS. Political analysts in Delhi, opine that the main reason for this show is “lack of national-level personalities from A P”. In contrast Tamilnadu which sent half the numbers as compared to AP is confirmed of getting at least 2 berths. P.Chidamabaram has already been awarded Home and the portfolio of both IT and communications is also likely to go to the state. The CM Dr YSR Reddy though is confident that Delhi will grant national level status for both Pranahita and Polvaram projects thereby easing the strain on the state’s finances.
