US asks for more H1B visas

The US now fears that clamping down on H1B visas can cause its firms to suffer “competitive disadvantages.” Many HR consultants in India heaved a sigh of relief when the Obama administration informed a court that the US needs the scheme to avoid the competitive disadvantages that its companies could face otherwise. A submission in this regard was filed by Mr Michael F. Hertz acting Assistant Attorney General in a response to the law suit challenging the government’s decision to extend the tenure of job seekers on student visas from one year to 29 months. Most of these job seekers are foreign nationals with technical degrees earned in the US and are willing to work there. This does not however result in a immediate revenue gain for the IT majors here in India as they have a huge backlog of H1B candidates waiting in their payrolls.
