TDP's Zahid Ali vows to work for betterment of Hyd's Old City
Hyderabad, Apr 4 : The TDP candidate for Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat and Editor of Urdu daily Siasat, Zahid Ali Khan, today said his top priority would be to make Hyderabad the "most secular part of the country".
Addressing a press conference here, Zahid Ali Khan who is making his political debut by taking on the formidable Majlis Ittehadul-e-Muslimeen, said that he had entered the political arena with the motto of serving downtrodden people.
Zahid Ali said he found that the Old City here continued to remain neglected and then thought of joining politics and serving the people. "I want to work for improving the infrastructure for education in Old City," he said. Without directly naming the MIM, Zahid Ali accused the local leaders of demolishing several schools in Old City and selling those lands. Zahid Ali said he would work towards filling up vacant posts in Urdu schools that were lying vacant since the last 15 years.
Hitting back at Majlis president and candidate for Hyderabad Parliamentary Constituency Asaduddin Owaisi's recent remarks, Zahid Ali Khan said his main opponent remained MIM.
"I have got very good chances of winning. MIM is dreaming (the threat) of BJP in the night and in day they are dreaming of Zahid Ali," he asserted. He claimed that BJP would not win in Hyderabad while PRP and candidates from other parties were no threat for his prospects. Reacting to a query, Zahid Ali said another independent candidate with his similar name was fielded (by MIM) for Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat to create confusion among voters, that made him to join TDP which has the Cycle symbol.
The force of Grand Alliance (TDP, TRS, CPI and CPM) would help him in the coming elections, he said.
