The Congress expelled 40 rebels on Tuesday for disobeying party discipline and continuing to be in the fray for Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
The rebels had refused to listen to the party leaders’ appeal to withdraw from contest. The prominent leaders who were expelled are Mr Jalagam Venkata Rao, Congress MLA contesting as an Independent in Khammam Assembly segment, Mr Chanda Lingaiah Dora, former MLA and rebel from Khammam Lok Sabha segment, Mr J. Chittaranjan Das, former MLA and minister, Mr G. Suryanarayana Reddy, former municipal chairman (Malkajgiri), Mr Koona Srisailam Gowd, former chairman of police housing corporation in Qutubullapur Assembly seat, Mr Ravula Ravindranath Reddy, former MLA in Devarakadra segment, and Ms Vijaya Reddy, daughter of late P. Janardhan Reddy who is contesting from the Serilingampally Assembly seat.
The PCC has also expelled another 26 leaders in Ibrahimpatnam, Serilingampally, Devarakadra and Parigi seats for indulging in “anti-party” activities.
