AICC’s star campaigner and Chair Person Sonia Gandhi’s whirlwind tour of A.P drew a mixed response. While there were packed crowds in Bhuvanagiri and Vizianagaram, the crowd response was lukewarm in Karimnagar. The crowds in Karimnagar filled up eventually, but they gave the impression of a disinterested lot. This was a worrying case for the local congress leaders as they were expecting to capitalize on the rebel aspects of the TRS and the TDP. The lack of interest in the crowds showed the distinct possibility of a fractured mandate in Karimnagar. As reported earlier Vijaysanthi of the TRS is contesting for the Karimnagar LS. Meanwhile Sonia assured the crowds in Bhuvanagiri and Karimanagar that the Congress was not against Telengana statehood. She in fact put the pressure right back on KCR and questioned how the TRS would achieve separate statehood for Telengana by joining the Mahakutami. She reminded the gathering that the Left parties were against the formation of a separate state of Telengana.
