In all likelihood the GHMC elections will be scheduled for the 24th of this month. Barring the communist parties who as usual will contest in limited but sure seats, the rest of the opposition seems to be in various states of disarray. The Srinvas Yadav episode in the TDP has definitely had an adverse ripple effect in the party cadre in Secunderabad and the repairs are yet to be done. Vijaya Rama Rao in Khairatabad is all but a shadow of his former self. TDP’s alliance with the Maha Kutami is going to cost it dear in Charminar areas in the old city. In these areas the Majlis will in all probability sweep to power. In areas like Kukatpally, the TDP is no longer a force to reckon with, thanks to the strong presence of Lok Satta. The fight if anything would be between the Lok Satta and the Congress. The PRP is totally in shambles as far as the GHMC elections are concerned. The party leaders are camped in Delhi fighting for a symbol and even the first list of candidates is yet to be finalized. One look in the streets of Hyderabad and we can only see one party doing the campaigning – the Congress! That, in itself should say a lot about the confusion in the opposition.
