The Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, is in a fix over giving a role to actor Balakrishna in the party . After the shocking debacle of the party in the elections due to the exodus of a large number of party leaders, Mr Naidu is now caught in a Catch 22 situation over the role to be assigned to Balakrishna.
The actor wants to play an active role in the party for which he needs a key post. Sources in the Telugu Desam told this newspaper that while Mr Naidu is keen to rope in Balakrishna to boost the sagging image of the party, he is equally worried about party getting a “family rule” tag.
While Mr Naidu is the party president, his brother-in-law, Mr N. Harikrishna, is an MP and politburo member of the party. Inclusion of Balakrishna into the politburo is bound to be criticised. According to a senior party leader, a key post to Balakrishna may threaten Mr Naidu’s position and there could be a demand from a section of party men sooner or later to entrust the party’s president’s job to Balakrishna.
