On a scorching hot Friday afternoon Hyderabadis chose to give Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi a cold shoulder. His meeting at Qutballapur was poorly attended. Swathes of vacant spaces could be seen in different parts of the Qutballapur municipal ground. An eerie silence prevailed among the few thousands that had gathered. They simply were disinterested. Rahul tried his best to evoke memories o his favourite state – AP. “Visiting Andhra Pradesh was like coming back home” he said but the applause was conspicuous by its absence. Honestly his speech was too way clichéd. He began by listing UPA’s achievements in the last five years. It was statistical and lacked soul. It was finally left to the CM Dr. YSR Reddy to stir the crowd into some action of sorts, a feat he managed to do by announcing that the 20 kg rice scheme (per ration card) would be increased to 30 kg, if he was voted back to power.
