The Mahakutami comprising the TD, CPI(M), CPI and the TRS is likely to announce its first list of Assembly candidates on March 15.
Telugu Desam sources said the party president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, who is under pressure to finalise the seats with the alliance partners, is planning to release the names of 60 to 70 nominees in the first phase to ensure the launch of campaign. The first list will have candidates from all the alliance partners.
The issue figured prominently at the TD politburo meeting on Wednesday. The leaders present at the meeting suggested that the list of nominees should be released at the earliest so that candidates can start campaigning. Sources further said that Mr Naidu was irked by the unilateral announcement of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti to contest from some seats. Sources added that such an announcement would tarnish the image of the Mahakutami and create confusion among the cadre.
“The Mahakutami’s first list is likely to be released on March 15. The draft manifesto, too, will be released this week to get feedback from cadre,” the Telugu Desam politburo member, Mr Kadiam Srihari, said.
