The Congress high command is likely to clear the list of candidate for the Assembly by Wednesday evening, according to the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president, Mr D Srinivas.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) senior leader, Mr Oscar Fernadez, too, confirmed it. He said the names of the candidates would be announced by the party’s Central Committee in two days.
Meanwhile, the cricker, Mr Mohammad Azharuddin, has found no place in the list of candidate either in Lok Sabha or Assembly. He joined the Congress recently.
The party high is understood to have decided to field him from Mahaboonagar Lok Sabha constituency if the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president, Mr K Chandrasekhara Rao, chooses to contest from there. The party’s decision is based on the fact that there is sizeable Muslim population in Mahaboobnagar Lok Sabha constituency.
According to informed sources, the Chief Minister, Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, and Mr Srinivas, carried out exercise on the names of the candidates for the Assembly seats till late in the night on Tuesday. A consensus list was submitted to the high command.
