What does this Congress win mean for the common man? That is the million dollars question at this point. Here are a few pointers. For starters the Indian State will continue to be a soft State and it would be soft on Terrorism. Incidents like the one in Mumbai cannot be completely ruled out. Inflation could be low, but food prices would be high. Prices of essential commodities could be on a rise. The Nuclear deal will come into effect, but we would have no say in US policy making. Jobs to India would be cut, outsourcing jobs may go out of the window, but India will not register a protest. At the state level, the various sops for certain sections of the society would continue. Though no one will raise a finger to ask from where the funds would come for such sops, they will all have a lurking doubt in their minds, about the source of funds for distributing such sops. The power scenario would be pathetic both for the industrial and domestic sectors under YSR, the roads would continue to be as bad as ever. Infrastructure and support to industry which was bad in the last five years would continue to be as bad. The industrial sector in the state is already on a plight and now with this Congress win, no new industries are likely to come-up in the State. That in effect would mean no creation of newer jobs. The water supply scenario in the State is already woeful. It would continue to be so for five more years. Incidents like Bholakpur cannot be ruled out. Corruption would be on an all time high. Vendetta politics would be the order of the day. Irrigation projects may get funding, but corruption could be a part and parcel of these projects. If in case the projects get completed in the next five years then it could be a great win for the Congress. The Telangana issue will die a natural death and Andhra Pradesh would be a united State. On-the –whole the Congress win is a package deal. The pluses and minuses are all there, but one hopes the pluses mould multiply and the minuses would divide for the good of the people!! | |
